HP DreamScreen 100 10.2-Inch Wireless Connected ScreenReviewsDo you want a very nice looking digital picture frame? Then why spend $100 plus and get JUST that? Why not get a bunch of other "netpliance" apps along with it. Many people can go into more detail about the limitations of the Dreamscreen, and I did have my moments of cursing on setup (Facebook!) and the limits of some of the apps, and the apparent lack of multitasking and some dumb menu item designs. Audio is ok but not great (we fixed it with small pc speakers you can attach). Video WMV and AVI not supported ?!?! stupid. Got it. BUT, if you want a WiFi-based countertop screen that beautifully shows pictures you've loaded, or pictures OFF OF ANOTHER PC (with the Dreamscreen located anywhere in your house, and with no cable attachments), videos you've loaded, music you've loaded or run OFF OF ANOTHER PC (get the theme?), a silly clock or calendar or the weather outside, or listen to Pandora stations, or selected FM radio stations. And you want it to look nice and bright. And you don't want keyboard laying there. And you want it small enough yet big enough, a countertop picture frame. And you don't demand an instant countertop browser. And you want frame front controls or a long distance remote control. And you don't demand touchscreen. And you want all of that for $200 or less. Then come on, this is COOL. Get it even if you have a netbook or an iPhone or and iPad. Or...watch for it to evolve next year. But we got one and are happy with it. My wife wanted a digital pic frame. Almost the same price - we got all of this. I am listening to Coldplay playing from this PC, but in the kitchen, while it's cycling through pics from Christmas. About to switch to Car Talk. Come on, it's pretty cool. Easy to use and set up. My only complaint is that it doesn't really multitask. If you're on Pandora, and want to check the weather, it will stop pandora. The only thing it will allow you to do simultaneously is a slideshow. Could be a lot better, does not have a battery I did not think about it but it would be so usefull. There are a lot of features on it that are not very friendly Alarm clock, it will only turn on to the same song every morning no random play Randomm play, is not random if you start it on a certain song, it will always play in the same order. Wish there was a way just to play all music instead of going through all your music to start. Video, I found a lot of my .avi and .mpeg would not play on it. if you have to change the volume from the screen you have to wait a bit for it to change off of that menu before you can do anything else otherwise you are always stuck in volume mode. It does have awesome quality of the picture and the sound is very very nice. You must connect it to your wifi router, you can not do a bridge to your laptop or network it must be to the router. This being said I think if I Were to have the option to buy again I would wait for an updated version. I use the HP Dreamscreen for my daily alarm clock, because of its extensive feature set (three timers, select musical wake up tunes for each, red numbers at night, etc.). I also like being able to have it off all day and it automatically coming on late at night, when I want a bedside alarm clock (like everything else, customizable). Overall the unit's user interface makes using the many features easy. The Internet radio support, especially for Pandora, is excellent. The unit sounds good for what it is, about what you'd get from any decent plastic tabletop radio. But plug in a good set of computer speakers and you've got a cheap and easy upgrade for the audio (I tossed them under the bedside tables). The Dreamscreen is also a full featured photo frame. Setting up the wireless networking was easy, with a well polished process. Almost any question can be answered by the full screen tutorials, located in the 2GB of onboard memory (you can free up about 300MB by deleting them). My wishlist is similar the other reviewers': Sleep timer for the audio A basic browser Ability to plug in any Internet Radio station (but HP does provide a massive selection from all over the world) I give it 4.25 stars out of 5 and would recommend it to anyone. HP had a neat idea here, but somewhere along the way from concept to completion it lost its way. It is too pricey for what it offers. I essence it is an expensive clock/calendar, internet radio player and 10" picture viewer, with a few other bells and whistles thrown in for good measure. The interface is time consuming and cumbersome to use and the speaker is not strong or of a very good quality. On the plus side the screen is nice and bright with a good viewing angle, and it displays photos and video nicely. And it does connect wirelessly to the internet. Let's break it down: 1. It easily connects to my home network, after I changed the security settings. 2. It is a good photo viewer though there are better dedicated ones. It can connect to your Snapfish library...if you have one. 3. Stream music from the internet or from your home PC. However, the interface for this is cumbersome and choosing internet stations is a pain. And then there are those underpowered speakers. 4. It works as an alarm clock and you can wake up to music. Okay I guess. 5. You can monitor your Facebook account and friends' status, but you can't update yours. 6. It has a calendar. Yippee. 7. Weather reports can be accessed from the web. Nice but not essential, just turn on the weather channel. This product practically begs for touch screen capability. If it had that, then I would say it is worth the price. But know, you are left to use either the remote or the few controls on the bottom and right edge of the screen. The menu interface is still slow to get through and overly complicated. I am not sure who HP was targeting with the Dreamscreen. Perhaps minimalists who want to ditch their clock, internet radio, calendar and standard photo frame in favor of this. For them it would be good. Perhaps. But for the rest of us, just use your computer or smart phone. It is quicker, easier, and you can do more. Kevin Nicholls hit the nail on the head with his review. My opinion is to wait -- easier to use and more functional devices are on the horizon or are already in your home. But if you want a digital picture frame that can do other things (though not well) and you don't mind the price, then this may just be for you. I've had mine for months and the only feature I still regularly use is the photo slideshow. Average Rating:![]() |

La Crosse Technology WS-9029U Wireless Weather Station with Digital TimeReviewsNice product. After two weeks it is working well. Wireless so far has worked as indicated. It does not record time and date of min/max recording which I wanted. This Lacrosse product is the perfect wireless temperature gauge for the person who needs to know what's happening outside. This is not the fanciest one of these. It does however work just fine. It's easy to setup and actually has two outdoor sensors in the same module. I recommended this product on my Koi Garden blog as a recommended Holiday Gift guide [...]. Later I wrote this review of the product on the same blogsite [...] and on my Yahoo List. This is a neat product. Every once in a while I come across a product that I just have to report back about. I have written about our 10 recommended gifts for the Koi Gardener. This holiday season I received a present off that list. It has allowed me the opportunity to install and try out the product in more detail. It is a product that really makes Koi Gardening a lot easier. I received a La Crosse Technology WS-9029U Wireless Weather Station with Digital Time. Essentially, it reports both the time and any temperatures of interest to a Koi Gardener; any temperature, both air and water. Plus it is expandable just by purchasing more remote temperature sensors. It is the perfect gift for the fanatical Koi Gardener with a penchant for technology. I have it set up to report on internal house temperature, external air temperature, and the temperature of the water in the pond, all from the convenience of my home. I could purchase an additional sensor to report on the water temperature of the filter assembly, but really, one water temperature reading for the pond is enough, even for me... Before you think that this is a technological solution looking for a problem, think about the cold winter days that you can avoid walking out to the pond and measuring the temperature. The argument becomes even stronger if you have snow and ice covering the pond. I now look forward to those days, when I can check the temperatures from the warmth of my house.... Plus it will serve as round one in my war with the Raccoons [...]. Installation is straightforward and easy. About the only problem is finding the right batteries for both the base station (AA batteries) and remote sensor (AAA batteries)... I will report back with any reliability problems in the future... 1/08/10 Update: I have read about and seen some upward bias of the temp probe. It appears to report the pond water temp a little higher than it should for the probe at the end of the wire. I will keep an eye on this and report back with more info. I wondered how come the lake temperature in Northern Wisconsin was still shown to be over 50 degf. When I took the sensor in for the winter, I found out. The remote sensor reads 11 degf high. I then went to see if Amazon would honor a return policy....nope, right to return expired earlier this summer. LaCrosse techs say merely to replace batteries. Already done that, and it still has 11 degf error. This is a great concept for a great price. Let me know if anybody gets one to operate with any degree of accuracy. I waited 6 months to write this review. I was concerned with battery life. So far there has been no problems with the original batteries. I would say for the money this is about as good a deal as there is. I bought it for the remote sensor and probe. I have the remote in my greenhouse at least 150 ft. from the base unit. It works great. I also like the humidity sensor on the base unit. I would have liked the base unit to be a little larger, but it's not bad. All in all, this is a very good indoor/outdoor thermometer. Travel Charger For Samsung u340, u410, u520, u540, u620ReviewsThe shipping was prompt and the product was exactly as it was advertised to be. Great seller! Not bad. Definitely cheaper than the original equipment if purchased at offical phone store (even with the tax and shipping costs). Good as a spare. I lost my phone charger but refused to pay the $30 that Verizon wanted to replace it. I got two chargers for $8 ($6 was for s&h) and they work just great. This charger works well, and it was still in the original packaging. It is worth every penny. Getting a new charger from the phone company would have cost more than $30.00. I am very happy. For the price that i paid for i think that it's ok, but the trouble is when you're pluging this to your cell phone you have to move and move the charger until gets to charge, it's a little tricky. Peak Safety View Back-Up Camera System with 7 Inch Color LCD MonitorReviewsThe first monitor stopped working after one day, contacted company and without hesitation, sent a new one. It seems to be working fine. After a lot of research and reading customer reviews I chose this one. It arrived ahead of estimated time and would of been a snap to install but I have a Cadillac CTS with a full liner in the trunk lid and a double walled lid to drill the half inch through and as per the instructions I was careful to make sure I avoided wiring but not careful enough. After repairing the damaged wiring (my fault) the rest was simple. The unit is very complete and works great! cts I've been using this camera for a couple weeks or more now. This system consist of three main parts. The LCD screen, The wireless transmitter, and the camera (with extra long cable built-in) Everything needed to set it up is included. The camera's resolution seems good as well as the resolution of the lcd screen. The LCD screen is handy since it has a mono speaker built in to be used with another video source. The screen is a little hard to see in bright sun / heavy glare but not too bad. The wire for the camera is a very good length and connects to the transmitter with a 3 pin connector (not RCA). The transmitter has a another 2 pin connector to attach to the power wire which has to be spliced into the reverse light. The LCD screen has two inputs, the first being the wireless transmission, and the second being the video + audio input via an included wire. The LCD screen automatically detects the transmitter when the transmitter begins transmitting. The LCD screen can automatically switch to the transmitter's backup camera and will automatically go into a power saver mode when no signals are detected ( GREAT features! ) The biggest problem I've seen is that this wireless transmitter actually interferes with other devices that handle wireless. The first couple of days of using it, my wireless network "coincidentally" started failing, it turns out it was the transmitter from this camera system. I suspect any 2.4GHz wireless device (including bluetooth?) will be interfered with when the transmitter is activated. The wireless transmitter was about 30 feet away and behind many walls but it still caused interference. The system is good, but imagine if everyone had wireless devices that randomly interfere with the 2.4 GHz, no wifi (and bluetooth?) would be reliable. As a side note, I was able to convert the transmitter to include a RCA input so that I could use the LCD screen (with an attached 12v battery pack that I put together and is not included) wirelessly with any video source (no wireless audio though), However, the interference becomes a bigger issue since you may want to use it frequently. Solves the problem of hooking to trailer- works like a charm. Not difficult to install on my 05 Tundra. Transmitter needs to be in trunk- I have a fiberglass cover on the bed, so this works fine, otherwise, wires would have to be cut and legenthened to install the transmitter in the cab. I installed thr backup camera on a 2001 Ford Ranger super cab for hitching a bass boat trailer on. I put the transmitter inside of the bed, behind the tail light housing in a protected area, and tie wrapped it on the bed brace. The install was staight forward with no surprises.I mounted the monitor on the center of the floor and permanatley wired the harness to the fuse panel. Am very satisfied with the performance, especially the cost. Have purchased items from Amazon previously and give them an A+ and UPS has delivered items before the scheduled arrival date. One bad factor, the monitor tries to light up on accasion. Talked to Ken at tech support. The receiver frequency is very close to security devices. Ken states that by pulling into a bank, the monitor get a picture. Would I buy again, yes, has a very good picture. Just have to turn it off when not in use. Average Rating:![]() |

Parrot MKi9200 Advanced Color Display Bluetooth Hands-Free Car KitReviewsthis thing works great in our 06 f250 and 08 mark lt pickups the only way to go when a man cant multi task, drive and talk on the phone at the same time. Ok. So, I got my MKi9200 today and had Best Buy install it for me and I have the DROID. Here is the low down: Calls: -Phone book syncs perfectly (no pictures unless you push them one at a time) -Phone reception in car = Amazing -Phone reception on other side = Great Music: -Bluetooth audio features are limited and doesn't sound prefect, but still pretty good -No album art (this is true of any Bluetooth connected phone including the IPhone) -Back and next track work fine -Pause button works, but resuming is buggy sometimes it work and mostly it doesn't Combine Features: -When a call comes in music pauses, but doesn't resume Note: All other goodies work as advertised. I already had an iPod touch and hooked that up the iPod connector in the glove box and get high quality audio, back and forward track, album art, and seamless music to phone call and back to music transitions. This is definitely the way to go. The best part is it is not my phone so I just leave it there hooked up and it is always ready to go. Hope this helps all you DROID fans! ~G I researched this product and most of the reviews were great. Once I found someone to install the system (warning, unless you are an audio tech, don't try to do the installation yourself), I was very pleased with how well the Parrot system performed. I have an Apple iPhone and wanted a system that would allow me to listen to my music and integrate with my car radio (Mazda3). The system is very intuitive, I love the hands free capability with the phone and the audio is excellent. Once you pair the system with your phone, you can use the hands free system without even plugging in your phone to the system (Best Bluetooth I've used). This is the best aftermarket Bluetooth system on the market. It is very much equal to or better than Ford's Synch system, but with Parrot you don't have to buy a Ford. I got 2 of these kits (One for me and an other one for my wife's car) and did a self install. (I got the install harness from safewireless). This harness is a HUGE time saver. Do not attempt a self-install w/o it. (Parrot recommends a professional install) Here's my rating on several topics. For me the most important issue was phone via bluetooth, followed by music via USB/SD card. 1. Phone bluetooth: Quality is a 9/10 (Safewireless provides a screen for the microphone for free which eliminates some whooshing sounds) 2. Aesthetics after install: 8/10 3. Music quality from SD card and USB card: 8/10 (I notice some audiophiles are not impressed) 4. Ease of use: 9/10 (I am impressed) 5. iPhone integration: Probably a 5/10 judging from the comments on the parrot website (No direct experience) 6. Customer support: 5/10 7. Price point: 6/10 (I think 150 bux is probably the "right" price) Installed my Parrot MKi9200 within minutes using a Bluetooth wiring harness from Amazon for a F-150 2007. Everything plugged up without any problems - I must say it was the easiest install for audio equipment I have done thus far! I have been using the unit for about a month now and love it! I only have two negative comments. After I installed the unit I had to update the firmware to work with my Blackberry 9330, no biggie here just a few extra minutes getting the unit updated. My other comment is a bit perplexing to me is that sometimes the unit resets itself while driving. I am still troubleshooting the problem but I am thinking it might be a bad wiring connection, software glitch, interference problems, etc? Other than those two items, the unit is well worth the money and the safety of driving hands free! Also, all functions work such as playing an ipod touch, SD card with songs, USB stick with songs, etc. Average Rating:![]() |

Parrot MKi9100 Advanced Bluetooth Hands-Free Car KitReviewsThis is so poorly made. The main plug that goes into the control box fits so loosely that the slightest bump makes it cut out. The audio quality is about as good as AM radio. This thing hums, whines, and pops from the speakers and I used the quick connect harness. Do not buy this unit!! Look for another alternative! I have had this unit installed in my 2001 Prius for four months. Although it works well enough, there are several problems that would keep me from recommending it whole-heartedly. Installation: The installation, with the pre-made wiring harness from QuickConnect was quick and painless. It took about an hour. I was able to put the little screen above my steering wheel without drilling and it all looks neat. Pairing the remote with the unit proved to be a little troublesome. There are no instructions for this in the manual, and the reference to it online takes some digging. Pairing the unit with my HTC myTouch phone was straightforward, following the instructions in the manual. Call Quality/Voice Dialing: Callers say that I sound very clear. And I hear them well, too. The voice dialing feature works well when it is in the mood. However, there is often (but not always) a period where the device will freeze if a call is initiated shortly after starting the car. During a period of up to, perhaps, five minutes from when the car is started, if I press the green button to make a call, the screen will indicate "Voice Recognition In Progress," but I will not hear the voice prompt "Who do you want to call?" for several minutes thereafter. Conveniently, while I am waiting for the prompt, the radio is muted, making it easier for me to clearly hear myself curse. No amount of pressing the red button will unfreeze the device and bring back Rush Limbaugh. I just have to wait until it's good and ready. Eventually the prompt will come, but by then I have traveled 5 miles in silence, arrived at my destination, and gotten out of the car to make the phone call that I initiated while leaving my driveway. However, once it does actually initiate, the voice dialing system works well-it very rarely misunderstands who I am asking for. Audio Quality/iPod functionality: The sound quality from the unit is good. No distortion, and loud enough to moderately rock out at highway speeds. The iPod controls are Spartan. For example, there is no access to genius playlists, no option for shuffling songs or albums, and the menu always resets to the top of the list, unlike the iPod which will bring one back to where one last was. This makes it difficult to move to a different album by the same artist, for example. One always starts at the top menu. I have found it easier to just use the Aux input with the 1/8" plug rather than the ipod connector. Even though it does not charge the ipod while driving, or pause it during calls like the 30-pin connector does, I prefer to have access to more ipod functions than the Parrot device will allow. Customer Service: After installing the unit I found that the iPod cable had a short near the connector which would cause all the sound to cut out if the ipod was moved (or a corner was turned, or a bump was hit) until I wiggled it back into alignment. When I unplugged the ipod cable from the blue box the bluetooth function continued working and my radio worked, so I was not totally inconvenienced during what turned out to be a long wait. I used the customer support website to try to get a replacement cable. I also asked for a replacement blue box to try to remedy the problem with freezing while initiating a call after starting the car. It took a month and a half to get a meaningful response from customer support and two months to actually receive a replacement cable and replacement blue box. Although I did eventually receive replacement parts, I would describe the customer support process as unsatisfactory. The new cable solved the problem with the ipod, but the replacement blue box behaves identically to the first one. Now, I just know not to try to call anyone right after I start the car. I give the device time to "warm up." I installed this in our Honda Fit using an aftermarket harness to make it (almost) "plug and play." I decided to purchase this rather than the Bluetooth add-on for the (Pioneer) stereo already installed, as it (Pioneer's Bluetooth unit) received pretty mediocre reviews, cost more, and of course wouldn't work if I eventually decide to put in a different brand stereo someday. If you're never installed a car radio before, this probably isn't the first thing you should install yourself -- I'd recommend having it professionally installed, since there are a good-sized handful of cables coming out of this thing that need to get routed properly, and you will most likely have to do some minor drilling and/or cutting to count the display and microphone if you want a really "clean" installation. As a yardstick, I probably spent 4 hours total on the installation. Anyway, then, it does work as designed. The interface is fast and responsive, and I like the quality of the display. The software is pretty well thought out -- perhaps A++-super-nerd programmers don't work at Parrot, but certainly above-average ones do. Pairing works quite nicely, automatically connecting to my phone when I get in the car & turn on the ignition and disconnecting shortly after the ignition goes off. When you're on a call, it asserts the "mute" line to the car's stereo which also pauses CD/USB/iPod playback, which is nice. I haven't had any of the communication failures/lock-ups that another reviewer here did. Some minor gripes are as follows: -- While the noise reduction is effective up to ~45MPH (most callers wouldn't be able to guess you're calling from a car), it breaks down at highway speeds: Callers will still find you intelligible, but the occasional piece of a word is cut off and there is noticeable distortion. I attribute this so some degree to the rather noisy interior that is the Honda Fit (and most other inexpensive Hondas, for that matter) -- at some level apparently the Parrot just can't reliably separate your voice from the as loud or louder cabin noise. Those with quieter cabins may not ever experience this problem. (I have tried turning "lateral noise detection" off and it does make things worse.) -- When hanging up calls, I often have to press the "hang up" button a couple of times. I suspect this is likely to be just as much the fault of the Parrot as my phone (a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2), but it is a bit annoying. -- The manual is rather spartan. While it contains information on all the "basics," it does leave out explanations for some menu functions, which you're hence left to guess at. While most have names that make it easy to figure them out, there are a few where it's not quite clear exactly what the option does. I think that this is a little on the spendy side for what you're getting, but overall I'm happy with it and feel that I've received a reasonable (if not spectacular) value for the money. I, like you, read all these raving reviews and decided to purchase this system for a hands free solution in my car. Trust me when i tell you to look elsewhere for a bluetooth solution. Not only did it take me weeks to find a proper adapter that would work for my volvo to properly install, the system only actually works about 10% of the time. The "remote" constantly has to be re-programmed to the system, which can only be done during the initial 5 seconds of boot up, yes, this means you have to shut off your car in middle of freeway to enable remote use again to make calls. If the remote is actually working properly, then the second most annoying issue is about every other or third call, the system just stops working completely. It will answer or dial out, but you cant hear the other party and they cannot hear you. This only causes you to have to take the phone off of bluetooth and hold it up to your ear, completely eliminating the point of the system. Even once you transfer the phone back to the bluetooth when this happens, it never works until you make a new call. I contacted Parrot regarding both issues and they explained both were known issues they were working on, big help there. FYI- i was using an iPhone 3GSs, Blackberry 8530 and 9630 (have paired three phones with the system, dont get me started on what a pain that is.) i had a jvc head unit that had built in blue tooth. i actually had two of them and they were very glitchy. they would not always connect and the mike was very poor. the parrot is awesome. people tell me they hear me really well. all the features come together really well. i hook up the analog line to my xm receiver and i also hook up my ipod. with the ipod i am disappointed though because i can't seem to turn on shuffle. i use the phone book a lot and it seems to be a little safer driving down the road. the voice commands are typical and after two tries i gave up and don't plan to use them. i purchased a cable to tie this directly into my factor radio. the remote is great with one glitch. it gets in the way a little bit and the buttons get bumped by mistake. by far the best bluetooth device i have ever used. Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control for Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D80 & D90 Digital SLR CamerasReviewsI purchased this for my Nikon D-50 and it works like a charm! I especially like being able to remotely fire the camera when it is on a tripod and I am trying to limit camera movement for distance shots. Again the camera store said... these must be referbished or used as they couldn't match the price found on Amazon... Not only that but the camera store didn't have any in and wanted me to come down and pre-pay for it and the shipping. NADA got it from amazon and its new new... not referbished as the camera store said it would be. I found that they try to intemadate you into buying it from them at a higher price .. than to tell the truth and you get it from amazon... Fast and great remote to be in the picture with... works off of IR so it has to be looking at the camera to fire it off.. but has about 15 ft range... enough for everyone to be in the picture... kinda thing. Good deal.. recommend it to anyone looking for a remote that will work their nikon.. of course its got Nikons name on it.. sooo any questions... Recomend it to any and all that are into photography... using a remote fire camera. (nikon) For under $20, it was perfect for Xmas. It's simple to use & it's wireless! The only thing I found myself doing making sure I pointed the remote to the correct side of the camera to hit the sensor. Sometimes it wouldn't go off then I'd have to point it more directly & it would work. The range is good. I had it taking shots from about 30ft away. It's also convenient for taking those long exposures without having to set the timer (of course so you don't get any movement on the camera). Also works great for getting in the picture with the family! So far...so good! I am not pleased because it dosent work with my camara as stated with Nikon book however I am going to try it on another nikon product when it gets in to see if it is the make which is making this product inservicable. I am not ready to tthrow in the towel yet I'm no expert, but for my needs this is a great little remote. It is very thin so slips into small pockets in my camera bag. I figured for 10 bucks, I'd be willing to risk it, i'm satisfied. Can't compare it to anything, never had one before. Average Rating:![]() |

Apple iPod Nano 5th Generation (with Camera) Transparent Clear Snap On Crystal Plastic Hard Cover CaseReviewsI am pleased with the plastic cover. Although it doesn't cover the screen, I knew it when I bought it and I am very careful with my iPod anyway, and I got an excellent deal on it. It provides excellent cover of the i-pod. The cover fits well, and has the handy strap for ease of use (and finding in a big purse!). Overall, great for the money! I got a cover with my new i-pod nano. After numerous attempts, I got it snaped on but now I am unable to get it off to clean underneath! The cover is great. It really made me feel more secure about carrying the nano around without damaging it. The only drawback is that once the cover is on, the nano won't fit in the stand it came with anymore. Not a big deal, but I was going to use the stand so I had to change plans. My experience with this case is similar to a few of the others...the case will not stay together. Right out of the cellophane bag the case fell into its two halves. Try and try, and try again the case would not stay firmly together. The few times it did go back together the slightest jar to the case or tug on the lanyard and it would fall apart. Ultimately the case was round-filed given the likelihood of it resulting in an introduction of the Nano to concrete. Linksys by Cisco WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router (Compatible with Linux)ReviewsThe vendor-supplied software wasn't as functional as I'd like; limited use of the available storage space, reduced configuration and so on. The ease of installing the dd-wrt software was ridiculously easy. The only problem relates to the design of the 'reset' button. The third-party software installation requires extended (90 seconds!) pressing-time on the reset button -- two or three times during the process. The button is difficult to hold for that length of time. But that's probably a good thing, because it means the settings don't easily get wiped by accident. The other problem I had was with one of the antenna mounts -- the post the antenna screws-down on, that exits the body of the device: One was loose, and not affixed well. It floated in a way that didn't make me comfortable. A drop or two of cyanoacrylate glue ('Super Glue') easily fixed it, but that's not something I think I would need to do right-out-of-the-box. Points off for that. One design suggestion: I'd like to see mounting holes on the bottom so one could easily wall-mount this device. As it is, the footprint takes up usable space on my desk. Good wireless router, though. I like it. I got this to replace the many of many Netgear and Dlink routers I have used in the past. I got it because there were so many good reviews on it and I know why. The wireless reception can reach the bottomless pit of my basement which my old recievers couldn't at all. It has amazing customization options with it. It also has a one button push if you need wireless right away. I would suggest using at least WPA encryption though which is easy to setup via the disk that comes with it. Overall I would give this 6/5 stars because it works perfect and has a great signal and great price. Tons of awesome reviews can't be wrong, you won't be dissapointed with this router. Don't even look elsewhere for any router alike because this one is in their price range and functions like a very expensive one. Solid like a rock. I did not update its firmware although there are free mod firmwares out there that can do many extra things. The only thing is that the router must be on a different sub net as my DSL modem. My DSL modem is on 192.168.1. The router came pre-configured on 192.168.1 as well. Some of my apps do not like this. After I changed the sub net to 192.168.3, everything worked great. Just a word to say I am pleased. Set up was a snap. Had my home network on in less than 15 minutes. Works fine. I buy Linksys because of its reliability, ease-of-use, and three-year warranty. I gave it a slightly lower rating because Linksys now only offers a one-year warranty. Regardless, it's my fourth - three currently working - and I've no complaints, especially since it gives me the option to "upgrade" using third-party vendor software. The OEM-provided software and upgrades are more than sufficient for my needs. I don't run any file-sharing nor am I an avid online gamer but we do have five wireless users who use the Internet for E-Mail, productivity, and online banking - sometimes, to VPN to work. Sony Wireless Bluetooth MicrophoneReviewsThis is a great product. The only two drawbacks are: * The mic's battery life is too short (about 30-45 minutes is the most I got out of a fresh new battery) * The size of the mic is a bit too big to hide on a subject. You can't avoid having it in the frame and the bright blue light is also not helping hiding it. Would be nice to have an option to attache a wired mic to it so you can have a small neck mic connected to the device and have the device clipped to the belt or something like it on the subject. I just purchased this unit and I'm pretty satisfied with it. The microphone is about the size of a bic lighter...maybe a little larger and has a clip that can be attached the the person's clothing or to the included elastic armband. The wind screen seems to work well. The hot-shoe adapter that picks up the wireless mic is about 2"x2". I received the unit the night before I needed it and didn't take the time to read it before my morning shoot. I wished I had because the wireless mic can adjusted to 3 different recording modes. Here's what happened....I was filming a swim team practicing with their coach. As they were swimming laps, the coach was following and commenting on their strengths and weakness. The coach was outfitted with the wireless mic and it worked flawlessly. As he walked to the end of the pool...100' away from me, his voice never faltered. It sounded great. Then, while still filming, I got the idea to change the audio from the "Single" (wireless mic only) setting to the "Mix 5.1 ch" (camera's audio w/ the wireless mic used as a 'center' microphone) setting. I didn't realize what I had just done but it was obvious during playback. While reviewing the video, I got to the point where I changed the audio settings and I was so disappointed. I could no longer hear the coach at the other end of the pool... I heard more of the camera's audio and little if none of the coach. I should have left it on the "Single" setting. It was my own fault but a good lesson learned. As the other reviewers stated, the microphone's battery life is short so bring a spare or two with you. I had about 5-7 minutes warning from the low battery indicator before it died. Overall, I would definitely recommend this unit. this is a superb product the microphone is really sensitive it records really crisp sound it has different modes a single and a dual(mic on the cam and the mic itself) and dual 5.1( similar to dual but in 5.1 ch) the microphone uses one "AAA" battery and gives around 45 minutes to half an hour the receiver uses the battery on the camera.I think it requires sony active accessory shoe so if you plan to purchase it for some other camera do consult a sales representative or something.so keep some extra batteries.. has a range of about90 meters in an open area without any distortion which is really good. the best part is the mic and the receiver has an option in whcih you can listen to the opposite person like if you have the cam with the receiver then you can hear the person with the mic and the person with the mic can hear you this makes a really cheap wireless communication offcoarse not as good as those expensive ones. this is a definitely good product for its purpose this is not for interviews where you need ambient noise reduction because this absorb all the ambient sound. but if you are looking to use it for interviews and get some natural sounds from the environment then its a good deal Before ordering this I went to Sony's site and listed accessories SPECIFICALLY for my Camcorder, the Sony HDR-FX7. This microphone was the first item on the list, again, specifically for the HDR-FX7. I liked it's looks and features so I ordered it. When I got the thing, I found out it ONLY works with Sony Camcorders with the "Intellishoe" mount. Mine does not, therefore there is no way, other than buying another Camcorder, to use it. But, it is well built, looks great, and has a lot of nice features. Amazon/Focus Camera were very curteous and prompt about the return and refund. I just wish I could have at least tried the thing out. The sound recording ability on my camcorder was adequate for providing background sounds to holiday videos but when I wanted to carry out interviews the subjects voice wasn't sufficiently prominent. Wireless microphones can be expensive and although this product isn't cheap it does perform well. There is a blue indicator light on both transmitter and receiver as a visual indication this connection is active. At first I thought this was a benefit but its quite bright if you are recording you can get it shining on the subject especially when using the clip to fix the mic to a jacket or shirt. I'm going to cover with tape this in future. Apart from this tiny niggle the device is easy to set up and is quickly dismantled fitting in a soft bag supplied. The sound is clear and with both the bluetooth picking up the sound from the subject and the camcorder picking up ambient sound the finished effect is good. Average Rating:![]() |

Sony Ericsson S500i Unlocked Cell Phone with 2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, Memory Stick Micro Slot--U.S. Version with Warranty (Mysterious Green)Reviewsi have had this phone for about 2 years now. i keep it in my pocket all the time, even at work. im a welder/ironworker and i have not broken this yet. which is amazing. i go through phones monthly. its VERY durable. the little plastic thingy on the outside screen lasted until just recently. the speakerphone speaker lasted only about 3 weeks... after 2 years some of the buttons dont work too well, but still work. i bought this from some other company not through amazon and i got screwed over on the warrantly. it took about a week to get here and according to what they told me, i had to register this phone with them within a week of ordering it to be able to get the warranty. so i wasted $$$ there... i thought i could just call them with the reciept and exchange it as with any other phone i have owned. i beleive the coolest thing about this phone is the flashy lights and such. although i wish it didnt have preset functions for those, and was more customizable. the camera is decent. gave it 3 stars because its taken a beating and still works 90% ok. missing the last 2 stars becuase, you cant customize the flashy lights, and the speakerphone blew very quickly. Switched to prepaid minutes with T-Mobile and researched to find I could buy an unlocked phone with SIM card (didn't like any of the T-Mobile phones available). Must purchase a SIM card to use with this unlocked phone. This phone is quite cool, except for the fact that the screen could be larger. The randomly changing screen saver is a beautiful, along with the mysterious side lighting. Very fun. The phone has an AWESOME mp3 player; with supplied earphones your music sounds like a symphony. Without earphones the music is loud enough to hear but is tinny (as usual). You will need to purchase a Sony memory stick card, which is different from the familiar micro cards we are used to in cell phones. Without that you have little space for mp3 files. The Sony memory is limited to 2gb but is enough for me. Purchase the Sony micro stick along with the phone from the same seller to save on shipping costs... The camera takes nice pictures and videos, and even has a feature to turn the photos landscape, which is good because the screen is rectangular. Really a beautiful, sturdy phone. However - after purchase I discovered that prepaid T-Mobile offers no data plan to access the Internet unless you purchase their Sidekick phone - which is no longer sold on the T-Mobile website at all. So, this Sony phone has many great apps and free games from their website that I am unable to access because I have no Internet capability with T-Mobile. Sony also does not let you download any apps or games through your home computer...must be directly through an Internet connection to your phone. This phone will take and send video and picture messages and text messages though. Just think everyone should know of this limitation. I thought I did all my homework but somehow missed this when researching prepaid cell phones. You can sync up to your home computer to transfer picture, video, and mp3 files, which is quick and convenient. Sony customer support was nice and helpful. T-Mobile support is off-shore but helpful, although time-consuming. Would probably love this phone better with a different service provider where Internet was available through a data plan, but I will keep the phone because of the other positive features. I BOUGHT THIS PHONE FOR MY GIRLFRIED BUT I USED IT FOR A DAY BEFORE I GAVE IT TOO HER..ITS A CHEAP FEELING PHONE AND SO FAR MY GIRLFRIEND HAS HAD IT FOR A WEEK SHE AGREES IT FEELS CHEAP. I HAVE HAD A SONY PHONE BEFORE, THE W800 WHEN IT CAME OUT WHICH I LOVED BUT THIS A VERY BASIC PHONE AND DOESNT FEEL SOLID.NOTHING EXCITING ABOUT THIS PHONE. THE SIM CARD ISNT ALWAYS RECOGNIZED BY THE PHONE WHEN INSERTED WE HAVE TO PLAY WITH IT FOR A WHILE WHENEVER WE TAKE THE CARD OUT. OVER ALL I DONT THINK ILL WILL BUY A SONY PHONE FOR A WHILE BECAUSE IT DOESNT SEEM OR FEEL LIKE A THEY ARE STURDY PHONE NOW DAYS..I WAS VERY DISAPOINTED.FROM NOW I WOULD STICK WITH A GOOD NOKIA PHONE.HOPE THIS SAVES A FEW PEOPLE. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY I DID We purchased this unlocked phone because my daughter's phone was dropped and no longer working right three months before the end of the 2 yr contract period. This phone is very similar to the Walkman she had before but with the added bells and whistles of color changing and screen animations with day/night changes and seasons changing. She loves the phone - and best of all - she has not come to me with any problems. The phone was about 1/2 the cost of the ATT Walkman and lives up to its advertising. Can't ask for more. Well, the love affair is over. I did not require much in terms of a phone, beyond making and receiving calls and texts. It did that. The main outstanding feature of this phone is the constantly changing, beautiful and seasonally appropriate graphics. Now, all that is gone and I can not read the screen. Unfortunately, about two weeks ago, I noticed a little blemish on the screen (it looked like a scorch mark). This deepened into a dark patch, obscuring any display on the upper right hand corner of the screen. Then last night, the screen went almost completely dark and nothing I have tried restores it. There is a very faint glow (maybe 5 % visibility) so I can't read texts nor the numbers in my address book, or caller id. I am very disappointed. For the money, I expected these features to last. GoPro Motorsports HERO Wide CameraReviewsI am very happy with this purchase. I have attached it to my harley in several positions and the video comes out clean and clear. The suction cup that comes with it is amazing. I stuck it on the side of my saddle bag and rode for 20 miles. held on like a champ. one tip is to make sure you purchase the energizer lithium batteries. it will not work with other batters. I cant wait to use it for my snowmobile trip in two weeks. you wont be disappointed. My GoPro Motorsports Wide Camera (Standard, non-HD, 5 megapixel) arrived yesterday. I planned on using this for HPDE track days. Upon inspection of the contents, I noticed that there was a scratch on the housing around the lens cover. Maybe it was used by someone else and returned? No big deal, as long as the camera performs well. So I updated the unit with the new firmware, which is supposed to allow it to handle up to an 8GB SD card and improve how it reacts to bright light. I then proceed to mount it inside my car above the rear deck using the suction cup mount on the rear windshield. This morning I record my commute to work, just to play around with it. Upon opening the file on my computer, I find that the entire video is over-exposed! You can see the interior of the car ok, but everything outside was way to bright! Granted, there was snow on the ground and it was a sunny day, but you could barely make out anything! In addition, the rear mounting location with the wide lens makes it very difficult to see the road ahead of you in the video. You mostly see the back of the front seats and cannot really make out your line. The audio quality of this model was also quite poor... with the housing gasket in place, you could BARELY hear my exhaust rumble (and I have a somewhat loud exhaust). There was also this constant humming/buzzing noise. So during lunch I remove the housing gasket and try a different mounting position, under the rearview mirror. This time the sound came out ok, background humming/buzzing was still there. But the vid came out under-exposed, too dark! I am returning this camera, maybe that's why the previous buyer returned it as well. I might give the HD one a try, as I hear that it has a better processor and handles various lighting conditions better. If I do, I will use the handlebar mount on my rearview windshield. The lead instructor at my driving school as approved this as an acceptable mount and mounting location. Great idea. Poor execution. The case is first rate - tough and easy to use. The camera suffers from several angles. The battery current is excessive for a small, simple device. I'm in the electronics field and have seen this problem before. Poorly designed circuits designed by amatures. The product should not have ever been released to the public for sale. The battery life is so short that the usefulness of the package is dismal. I will use high capacity rechargeables for now but will look for a better substitute camera to replace this one with. The operating buttons and operator's screen are far too small for this old geezer's poor eyes. There is no excuse for this design. Again, great helmet video camera for the price. I didn't have the battery issues many have complained about. I use the cheapo Radio Shack rechargables AAA's that come with a charger along with cheapo SanDisk 2GB SD cards. It gives me a solid hour of recording time (2GB card + one set of batt's). For me, after an hour of riding it's time for a break. No biggie to change the batteries an SD card during a rest stop. The playback isn't that great in low or bad lighting conditions. It's more of a fair weather (good lighting conditions) camera. The playback isn't as clear as a cheap cam-corder, a little grainy, but I'm very suprized of how steady the playback was after filming some very bouncy dirt bike riding. The mounting hardware that came with my "motor sports" version suites all of my needs and offers many different ways for helmet mounting. The price for the 5 meg pixel NON-HD version is pretty reasonable from what it was when they first came out. I think it was $165 with standard USPS shipping. I paid a few more dollors for the, so called, faster delivery time hoping that I would get it in time for a big riding trip. The extra cost in the, so called, expidited shipping was a waste. It wasn't delivered before my departure. The company that I ordered through shipped via USPS (snail mail) so it took about a full week to get to my door step. No big deal, I just wish I didn't pay for the extra cost for the, so called, faster shipping. I wish I had the HD version for the better picture quality but I'm not complaining about this unit due to price I paid. It has done a good job saving some great riding on film. I'm sure I'll get the curent HD version when it becomes a little out dated and the price drops like the one that I now own (5 meg pixel version). If you can aford to spend the extra cash on the HD version skip the 5 meg pixel and go HD. If you can only aford the standard model go for it. The price is reasonable and the ability to catch some great memories on video to enjoy over and over again, reguardless of non-HD clearity, is priceless! I have a GoPro and an EPIC action cam. The EPIC works every single time and can do an entire track day on one set of batteries. The GoPro? Don't know - it randomly stops recording. Sometimes you get 30 seconds of video some times a whole session, but more than likely you get 4 or 5 minutes. Just enough to get out of pitlane do your warm up lap and get started and then nothing. I would seriously recommend that you look elsewhere before buying this POS. The coolest thing about it is that they give you a ton of mounting hardware. At least everybody at the track will think you're recording them. Average Rating:![]() |

Although the word surveillance in French literally means "watching over", the term is often used for all forms of observation or monitoring, not just visual observation. Nevertheless, the all-seeing "eye in the sky" is still a general icon of surveillance. Surveillance in many modern cities and buildings often uses closed-circuit television cameras. Although surveillance can be a useful tool for law enforcement and security companies, many people have concerns about the loss of privacy.
The word surveillance is commonly used to describe observation from a distance by means of electronic equipment or other technological means.
